My computer background is currently set to the Mahatma Ghandi quotation,
“Be the change you want to see in the world.”
I know that the quotation is worn out from overuse, but it is as true today as it was when Ghandi did or did not say it.
We cannot single handedly change the fate of a nation, change the way our country is governed, or change what our conservative relatives believe. However, we can offer an alternative viewpoint, a human face to a new and different idea. We have the power to suggest new ideas, to represent new concepts, and change the tone of the conversations around us.
Although we may not convince everyone in our circles, we may change one person’s mind. This one person may incorporate elements of the new ideas into their daily lives or spread the word to their friends. And thus the ripple is born.
People may surprise you, or they may make the changes just to be polite. Nevertheless, you have changed something. You have started a ripple effect, and you are one step closer to the future you want to see.
It’s just one step. Take it. Be the change you wish to see in the world.
